Severe Disablement Allowance was a benefit which could be claimed if you were too unwell to work. You cannot make a new claim for Severe Disablement Allowance anymore. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) have replaced the Severe Disablement Allowance with Employment and Support Allowance (ESA). However, the DWP may continue your claim if you got Severe Disablement Allowance before April 2001.

We can’t say exactly when the DWP will reassess you for ESA (or Universal Credit if you live in a full service area) if you are still getting Severe Disablement Allowance. However, the Jobcentre Plus helpline may be able to tell you. The DWP will contact you when they are going to review your Severe Disablement Allowance claim, and you do not need to do anything before they contact you.

JobCentre Plus

Jobcentre Plus is a quango used by the UK Department for Work and Pensions for its working-age support service in the United Kingdom, its services offered directly by the Department for Work and Pensions.
