Free care for people who have a mental illness
People who receive treatment under the Mental Health Care and Treatment (Scotland) Act 2003 or the Criminal Procedure (Scotland) Act 2003 will not be charged for services they receive under these measures. This relates to people who are subject to Compulsory Treatment Orders or Compulsion Orders and who are therefore required to comply with the treatment provided.
Services are also provided for free if they are provided through Criminal Justice Social Work or Adult Support and Protection regulations and assessment.

This means you can get free aftercare in the community and if your care plan says you need to be in a care home, your costs for the care home will be free. The rules around getting free residential care will be complicated, so you can phone Change Mental Health on 0808 8010 515 to seek further help.
